Middlebury Summer Festival

Pietrzaks named Summer Festival Grand Marshals

Parade marshalsGeorge and Kay Pietrzak have only lived in Middlebury for 27 years, but consider this home.

In 1990, the couple purchased the KOA Campground on SR 13 north of Middlebury and knew from that moment on that this is where they were meant to be.

With hard work and determination, the Pietrzaks were able to bring the Middlebury KOA Campground out of its poor rating of “F” to an “A+.” They sold the KOA campground in 2002 but since they loved Middlebury so much, they moved about 1½ miles from the campground.

They commented on how much they love getting to know people and how great Middlebury is to raise kids. They love how Middlebury is growing not only in size but in cultural diversity.

The Pietrzaks celebrated 46 years of marriage this past May. They have two grown children: Brian, who lives in Wheaton Ill., with his wife and two children; and Carrie, who lives in Hawthorn, Calif., with her husband and three children.

The Pietrzaks attend the Bristol Methodist Church and are members of several organizations, including the Middlebury Breakfast Optimist Club, American Legion, Middlebury Men’s Club, and Boy Scouts.

They each sit on several boards throughout the area: Dollars for Scholars (George), Middlebury Breakfast Optimist Club, Bristol Food Pantry, Bristol United Methodist Church, Stephens Ministries, State Chair Campground Owners Association, IMHA/RVIC (George), Ethics Board Goshen General Hospital (Kaye).

Kaye is a licensed RN and has licensing in five states. Both are Jr. Optimist Start Up advisors and leaders, youth group advisors, Adult and Children Sunday School leaders, chair the CAPS Life Savers Campaign, Loveway fundraiser volunteers, and chair chicken sales for the Middlebury Breakfast Optimist Club.

They have also received the Book of Golden Deeds Award from the Crystal Valley Exchange Club.

The Pietrzaks have been to all of the Major League Baseball stadiums, all of the Presidential Libraries, all 50 states, and camped in almost all of them too. National parks are big on their visiting list also.

They also have a special relationship with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Congratulations to George and Kaye Pietrzak, the 2017 Summer Festival Parade Grand Marshals!
