News from Mrs. Buller, Principal
Four Stars for York
In May, York Elementary School received the honor of being named a Four Star School by the Indiana Department of Education. The honor was a thrill to staff, families and students who worked so hard to deserve such a distinction. This was the first time that York has received the award and what made it even sweeter was that York was the only elementary school in Elkhart County to receive the award this year.
The award recognizes schools that perform in the top 25th percentile of schools on the ISTEP+ and ECA state assessments. Northridge High School also joined York on the list. The two schools were recognized along with 311 schools statewide.
So what is the key to the success? York staff members work tirelessly to provide rich learning experiences for the students. That includes partnering with families and creating a place where kids want to be. York provides a solid academic program in a school that feels more like a family than an institution. York pays attention to each and every student and what they need to be excited about learning. As Mrs. Buller, principal says, “We work hard and we play hard. That is what creates excited, successful learners.”
